Instructions

  • Make the cake according to the package instructions and bake in a 9x13 pan.
  • While the cake bakes, make the jello. Whisk the jello mix and boiling water in a bowl well until the mixture has completely dissolved. Add the ice, and whisk well for 1-2 minutes, or until the mixture is cold. Remove any excess ice.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely. Using the end of a wooden spoon, poke holes about 1" apart from each other all over the cake. Pour the jello evenly over the cake and set aside in the fridge.
  • Beat the cream cheese until soft. Add the icing sugar, and beat until completely smooth. Gently fold in the whipped cream until everything is well combined.
  • Using a piping bag, cover the entire top of the cake with frosting. Finish by spraying with black and orange edible food spray.

Notes

You can use regular food coloring if you prefer. Split the frosting in half in two separate bowls and mix the colors into the frosting before piping onto the cake.
You can use white, vanilla, or birthday cake mix if that's more convenient for you.
Our cake mix called for 1 cup of milk, 1/2 cup of oil, and 3 eggs. Follow the directions on your boxed cake if it differs from ours.
