Ingredients

  • 6 dinner rolls split
  • 12 slices ham
  • 6 large eggs
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese
  • butter for frying
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Arrange the split dinner rolls on a baking sheet, cut-side up, and toast in the oven for 5-7 minutes or until lightly golden and crisp.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ham slices. Cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side until they are slightly browned and warmed through. Set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add a bit of butter. Depending on the size of your skillet, you may need to fry the eggs in batches. Crack the eggs into the skillet, season with salt and pepper, and fry according to your preference. For a fully set egg, flip over after the edges set and cook for another minute.
  • Place a slice of cheddar cheese on each bottom half of the toasted dinner rolls. While the cheese is still cold, add a warm fried egg on top of each cheese slice, allowing the residual heat to start melting the cheese. Top each egg with two slices of the cooked ham. Cover with the top halves of the dinner rolls.
  • Serve the sandwiches warm. If you prefer the cheese more melted, you can quickly microwave the assembled sandwiches for about 10-15 seconds each or place them back in the oven under a broiler for a minute just before serving.

Notes

  1. Toast the rolls to keep them from getting soggy when adding the eggs and ham.
  2. Customize the sandwich by adding your favorite veggies, like sautéed spinach or sliced tomatoes.
  3. If you prefer, scramble the eggs instead of frying them.
