So if you weren’t a nut person 15 seconds ago – maybe you should reconsider! Let’s get snacking people!

Not only are walnuts chalked full of nutrients but they are also incredibly easy to make! Just gather them up, toss in the sugar seasoning and bake them to perfection! I’ll also mention that now with the holidays upon us, these make for a perfect budget-friendly homemade food gift that everyone will love!

How To Make Candied Walnuts

  1. Preheat oven: To 300 F degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper; set aside.
  2. In a small bowl: Whisk together the brown sugar, sea salt, and cinnamon.
  3. In a large bowl: Whisk the egg white and add the walnuts and toss making sure the egg whites coat the walnuts. Next, add the sugar mixture and stir ensuring all of the walnuts are evenly coated.
  4. Bake: Spread the walnuts in an even layer on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the walnuts from oven and stir them just briefly. Finally, place the walnuts back into the oven and bake for another 20 minutes.
  5. Finish: When the second bake time completes remove the walnuts from oven and transfer to a cooling rack for 15 minutes. Serve immediately!

Different Variations

It’s okay if you want to customize this candied nut recipe a bit! Whether you’d like them sweeter or maybe a bit more on the spicy side it’s completely up to you! Here are a couple ideas:

  • Adjust the sweetness – Feel free to increase the amount of sugar or add other ingredients such as honey or vanilla.
  • Use different seasoning – I’ve seen these nuts with a bit of cayenne pepper for some heat or even chai and pumpkin pie spice just to create something a little different!

How To Serve Them

You can get as creative as you like here you guys! Candied nuts are really versatile! Here are some of my favorite ways to serve them:

  • Plain – Yep, I’ll just eat them one by one, as a little snack throughout the day!
  • Salads – Candied nuts make really good salad toppings!
  • Sweet potatoes – Taste delicious combined with baked sweet potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, or sweet potato casserole!
  • Snack mix – Stir them into a trail mix or just bake an assortment of candied nuts and mix them all together!

Storage

When stored properly in an airtight container (glass is ideal as they can become sticky!) candied walnuts will last up to 2 weeks at room temperature. If you want to extend the life, candied walnuts will last in the refrigerator, properly stored for up to 4 weeks.

Freezing candied walnuts will definitely extend the shelf life! Stored properly in an airtight sealed container, these nuts will last up to 2 months in the freezer!
