Teriyaki Chicken is always the answer to what should we eat tonight! It’s savory, tangy, with a hint of sweet and tons of flavor. The best part – it’s all ready in under 30 minutes!
Teriyaki Chicken
Teriyaki chicken is one of my favorite and most ordered dish whenever I eat out at a Japanese restaurant. There’s just something about that slightly sweet, decidedly tangy, and richly savory sauce that I just can’t seem to get enough of! But what is it exactly that makes this dish so special?
It just seems that this dish is a marriage made in heaven. That tender, juicy chicken all cooked and marinated in a savory, sticky, sweet teriyaki sauce. My mouth is watering just thinking about it but luckily it’s ready in a flash so let’s get into it!
What Is Teriyaki?
Did you know that teriyaki is actually a cooking method? It’s used in Japanese cooking and just involves cooking your food in a glaze typically made from soy sauce, some type of sugar, and mirin – also known as rice wine vinegar. I shared a great Teriyaki Sauce recipe on the blog the other day and have been wanting to give you guys lots of ideas for recipes to make with it!
It’s a bit more Western to pair this sauce with chicken, but you’ll be glad you did. I promise.
Ingredients In Chicken Teriyaki
Detailed measurements and instructions can be found on the printable recipe card at the bottom of the page.
- Olive oil – I used olive oil. Feel free to use vegetable oil if you’d like.
- Chicken – I used chicken breasts, boneless and skinless, cut into 1 inch pieces. You can also use chicken thighs.
- Pepper – To taste, we’re not using any salt today as our sauce has more than enough sodium.
- Teriyaki sauce – I used my own homemade teriyaki sauce which really makes all the difference in the world.
- Onions – I used green onions because it packs extra freshness.
- Sesame seeds – I like to use toasted sesame seeds but if raw is all you have it’s still a great toasty and nutty addition.
