Juicy beef patties are breaded, seared to perfection, and then topped with classic marinara sauce and melted Italian cheeses to make this delicious Italian Style Hamburger Steak recipe! It’s super simple and a meal that you can whip together in just 30 minutes!

Easy Italian Style Hamburger Steak Recipe
In my house, we love a good Chicken Parmesan! It’s such a comfort food and a super easy meal to make. But imagine if you took all the best parts of chicken parmesan and then combined them with just the juicy ground beef patty part of a good Salisbury Steak without the mushrooms or gravy. Well friends, that’s sort of what I did here and it turned out amazing!
First, I made all beef patties with no filler and added a bit of seasoned salt to enhance the natural beef flavor. Then I breaded the patties and pan-seared them to crisp perfection, topped them with some jarred tomato sauce, and then finished them with some melted mozzarella and salty Parmesan cheese. This dish is meaty, cheesy, and absolutely delicious!
Not to mention this recipe is really versatile. It makes a great main dish when paired with noodles, rice, or potatoes. But it is also fantastic served between a bun!

Why You’ll Love This Italian Style Hamburger Steak
- Quick And Easy! No fancy ingredients are needed for this simple 30-minute from scratch recipe! And you can even use jarred red sauce. It’s an ideal weeknight meal.
- Parmesan Hamburger Style! When a juicy ground beef steak is breaded and then topped with red sauce along with some melted Italian cheese, what you get is like a tasty hamburger parmesan.
- Family Favorite! Who doesn’t love a good hamburger!?! And this one is turned into a steak and topped with sauce and cheese. You can’t go wrong with this meal!Â
Ingredients You’ll Need

- Ground Beef – I normally use extra lean ground beef.Â
- Beef Broth –  I always use low-sodium beef broth to control the amount of added salt. Vegetable broth is another option. It’s used to add a bit of moisture.
- Salt – Use as much as you like.
- Black Pepper – You can use regular or freshly ground black pepper to your taste.
- Parsley – Fresh chopped parsley has the best flavor, yet dried parsley will work too.
- Flour – All-purpose flour is used for dredging.Â
- Egg – Used to adhere the breadcrumbs to the meat.
- Breadcrumbs – Regular breadcrumbs are used to coat the hamburger steak.
- Vegetable Oil – I like to cook the patties in vegetable oil. You can also use olive oil but keep in mind that it will alter the taste.
- Mozzarella Cheese – You will need sliced mozzarella to top the hamburger steaks.
- Marinara Sauce – A jar of your favorite marinara is needed for this recipe. You can also use homemade sauce if you like, but store-bought will work perfectly.
- Parmesan Cheese – Adds another layer of yummy cheesiness.Â
How To Make Italian Style Hamburger Steak
This 2 part recipe takes no time to make! All you have to do is spend about 10 minutes making the ground beef steaks, top them with sauce and cheese, and then put them in the oven to bake! It’s home cooking made simple!
Preheat The Oven
Before you even begin the hamburger steaks you need to preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C). It needs to be nice and hot to melt the cheese at the end. Also, grab a shallow baking dish for that step, but set it aside for later.
Form The Hamburger Steaks

Now, let’s make the steaks! Add the ground beef, beef broth, seasoned salt, black pepper, and parsley to a large bowl. Then mix it all together with your hands. Yep! Your hands are the best tool for this step and you really need to get in there to fully incorporate the ingredients. Then divide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions and form them into patties that are ¾-inch in thickness.
Dredge And Bread

You need to bread the steaks before cooking them. So arrange 3 shallow plates in a row and then add the flour to the first one, the beaten eggs to the second, and the breadcrumbs to the third. Now, dredge each of the patties in the flour on both sides, then with the eggs on both sides, and finally into the breadcrumbs to coat.
Sear The Patties

With the hamburger steaks formed and breaded it’s time to cook! Heat the oil over medium-high heat in a large skillet. Then once the oil is hot, add the patties to the pan and brown them for about 2 minutes on each side. Then transfer the patties to a shallow baking dish.
Finish The Patties

Time to turn simple beef patties into something special! To start, top each patty with a slice of mozzarella cheese followed by about ¼ cup of marinara sauce and a sprinkle of grated parmesan cheese. Then transfer the patties into the hot oven and bake them for about 15 to 20 minutes. They are done when they are cooked to your desired temperature and the cheese has melted. Â
Serve

When the Italian style hamburger steaks are done you can garnish them with some fresh chopped basil and parsley if you like. Then serve them with some simple spaghetti or creamy mashed potatoes.
Can I Make This Dish Keto Or Gluten-Free?
Yes! Just don’t bread the patties and the recipe is instantly both keto and gluten-free. Simply just sear them for 2 minutes on each side after they are formed and continue on with the recipe. Another option for a gluten-free version is to use gluten-free flour and bread crumbs, which will work perfectly too.
Can I Use Other Types Of Ground Meat?
Yes, of course! You can use ground turkey, ground chicken, ground pork, or a combination of ground meats to make Italian style hamburger steak. What type of ground meat you use is totally up to you.

Expert Tips
- Use your hands. You really need to combine the meat well with the seasoned salt for the best flavor and your hands will do the best job over any other kitchen tool.
- Dredge well to bread. Completely dredge the patties in the flour on both sides and well with the egg before dipping them into the breadcrumbs. The flour and egg together are what really create the barrier for the breadcrumbs to form a crust.
- Don’t burn the cheese. If your cheese is starting to brown too much but your hamburger steaks are still not cooked to your desired temperature, just cover the baking dish with foil to keep the cheese from burning.
Storage
Italian style hamburger steak leftovers will keep in the refrigerator for 3 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months when stored in an airtight container.
To reheat, just cover the patties and put them in the microwave for about 3 minutes on medium heat. You can also reheat them in a skillet or in the oven at 350°F (176°C) for about 10 minutes. If frozen, you can either thaw them out in the fridge overnight before reheating or pop them in the oven frozen for about 30 minutes at 350°F (176°C).Â
