Ingredients You’ll Need
There are 4 yummy parts to this easy chocolate lasagna recipe. The oreo crust, the sweetened cream cheese, the chocolate pudding, and the whipped cream topping that is then garnished with mini chocolate chips and Oreo cookies! That may sound like a lot of steps, but in fact, it is one of the easiest desserts you will ever make! And you’ll find the complete printable recipe below. Here’s what you’ll need:

Oreo Crust
- Oreo Cookies – I’m a big fan of using Oreos in my chocolate lasagna, but you can use any brand of cream-filled chocolate sandwich cookie you like.
- Salted Butter – The butter should still be somewhat semi-cold to make the crust. And this is one dessert recipe that actually calls for salted butter, which will help to balance out the sweetness of the Oreos.
Cream Cheese Layer
- Cream cheese – The cream cheese needs to be at room temperature. I love Philadelphia cream cheese and always use it in my all recipes.
- Powdered sugar – Also known as confectioner’s sugar or icing sugar. It’s a good idea to sift out the lumps to ensure the cream cheese layer is super smooth.
- Cool Whip – Any brand of frozen whipped topping or whipped cream will work.

Chocolate Pudding
- Chocolate Pudding – You will need a box or two of your favorite instant chocolate pudding mix.
- Milk – You will need cold milk to make the pudding. I always use whole milk.
Top Whipped Cream Layer
- Cool Whip – Your favorite brand of whipped topping or whipped cream will do just fine.
- Mini Chocolate Chips – Used to garnish the whipped topping. You can also top it with chocolate shavings, your favorite nuts, sprinkles, etc.
- Oreos – To top the lasagna dessert as garnish and added yumminess.
How To Make Chocolate Lasagna

- Make the oreo cookie crust: Pulse the Oreo cookies, including the cream centers, in a food processor until they resemble fine crumbs. Then add the melted butter and continue pulsing until fully combined. Now, evenly pour the mixture into a 9×13-inch baking dish and press it down to form a crust. You can also use the bottom of a glass or spatula to make this step easier.
- Make the cream cheese layer: Mix the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and one cup of the cool whip together until light and fluffy in a stand mixer or using a hand mixer. Then spread the smooth cream cheese mixture evenly over the Oreo crust.
- Make the chocolate pudding: Mix the chocolate pudding powder with the cold milk using a stand mixer or hand mixer until it’s firm. Now, evenly spread the pudding over the cream cheese layer.
- Top the lasagna: Spread the cool whip topping over the pudding layer and then sprinkle with mini chocolate chips and Oreo bits to garnish.
- Chill the dessert lasagna: Put the finished dessert in the fridge to set for at least 4 hours before serving.

Can You Make Gluten-Free Chocolate Lasagna?
Yes! You can easily substitute the Oreo cookies for your favorite gluten-free cream-filled chocolate sandwich cookie.
Can You Use Any Flavor Of Pudding Or Cookie?
Yes! If you’re feeling creative you can design your own dessert lasagna. Any type of pudding will work as well as any type of cream-filled sandwich cookie. You could even make a vanilla lasagna with Golden Oreos and vanilla pudding. However, you must use cream-filled cookies for the crust to form properly. The fat in the cream filling works with the butter in the recipe to both bind and mold the crust.

Expert Tips
- Use Oreo cookies. For the yummiest chocolate lasagna, use Oreo brand cream-filled chocolate sandwich cookies! They are top-notch and the best.
- Sift the powdered sugar. This helps to ensure that your cream cheese layer is velvety smooth. No one wants to bite into a lump of powdered sugar. In fact, you should always sift powdered sugar for all recipes.
- Chill the lasagna. If you skip this step the lasagna will not slice as uniformly and the layers may just be a sloppy mess. The good news is that it will still taste amazing, but it just won’t be as pretty.
- Add nuts or spices. Feel free to add a touch of cinnamon to your pudding mix or a dash of vanilla to the cream cheese layer. You can also sprinkle any type of toasted nuts in between the layers or on top for an added yummy crunch.
Make Ahead
It is possible to make chocolate lasagna ahead of time. To do this, make all the layers, assemble, and then double wrap the pan in plastic wrap and store it in the fridge for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 2 months. Yet, when making ahead, wait to garnish it with the mini chocolate chips and Oreo bits until the day you plan to eat the dessert lasagna. Also, if you choose the freezer option, you will want to allow it to thaw out in the fridge before serving, which should take about 6 to 8 hours.
How To Store Leftovers
I doubt you will have any leftovers! But if you do, chocolate lasagna will keep for up to 5 days when covered in the refrigerator or for up to 2 months in an airtight container in the freezer.
