Yet, you don’t have to totally give up all things pizza. And that’s where this healthy air fried pizza stuffed chicken breast with a cajun twist saves the day!
Just picture tender and juicy cajun seasoned chicken breasts stuffed with ooey gooey mozzarella cheese, savory slices of pepperoni, and pizza sauce that are then air fried to perfection. - Chicken – You will need some boneless skinless chicken breasts. Chicken thighs are not as easy to stuff so I don’t suggest using them for this dish.
- Cajun Seasoning – Added to give the chicken a little kick, this seasoning is usually a mix of black pepper, white pepper, cayenne pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, thyme, and salt. Chili powder with a pinch of dried thyme and cayenne pepper is a good substitute.
- Pizza Sauce – Any store-bought pizza sauce or marinara sauce can be used. You can also make your own homemade Pizza Sauce if you like.
- Sliced Pepperoni – Add loads of yummy classic pizza flavor to the chicken. Cooked sausage, bacon, or salami are other good options.
- Mozzarella Cheese – I used thinly sliced Mozzarella, but shredded mozzarella will work too if that’s what you have on hand. A good alternative is provolone cheese.
How To Make Pizza Stuffed Chicken Breast
Cooking chicken breast in the air fryer is ridiculously easy and turns out consistently good every time! Just follow my simple directions and you’ll have dinner ready in under 30 minutes!
Preheat the Air Fryer If Needed
Before you even start working with the chicken, you need to preheat your air fryer to 400°F (204°C). But this step is dependent on your particular model. Some air fryers don’t need to be preheated. So you will need to check your manufacturer’s guide.Â
Prep The Chicken

Next, let’s get the chicken breasts ready for stuffing! Use a small sharp knife to slice the side of each chicken breast to form pockets that are about ¾ of the way into the breasts. You just want to create slits in the chicken to stuff. The breasts should still be in one piece after you’ve created the pockets, not cut in half.
Season And Stuff The Breasts

After the chicken has been prepped, generously sprinkle the outside of the breasts with the cajun seasoning. Then stuff each piece with ¼ cup of pizza sauce followed by some pepperoni and then 1 to 2 slices of mozzarella cheese. If needed you can use toothpicks to secure the stuffed breasts.Â
Air Fry The Stuffed Chicken

To cook, spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Next, place the stuffed chicken into the basket in a single layer and spray the chicken itself with cooking spray. Then put the basket into the air fryer and cook the chicken for 17 to 20 minutes or until cooked through. When done, the internal temperature of the chicken should be 165°F (74°C) when checked with a digital cooking thermometer.Â
Serve And Enjoy

What Can I Add To This Stuffed Chicken?
Anything you like! Just remember to keep the ratio of ingredients about the same because the chicken can only hold so much. But feel free to switch out the pepperoni for other meat or veggies like mushrooms and spinach. Use any cheese you like or sauce for that matter. You could even make white pizza stuffed chicken breast with some Alfredo Sauce!Â
Can I Bake The Chicken In The Oven?
Yes! Just follow the recipe instructions up until it comes time to cook. Then lay the stuffed chicken in a baking pan lined with parchment paper and bake it in the oven at 400°F (204°C) for about 25 minutes or until done. Note, to be considered fully cooked your chicken always needs to have reached an internal temperature of at least 165°F (74°C).

- Pat the chicken dry. Pat the chicken dry to remove any excess moisture before sprinkling it with cajun seasoning. This helps create a better texture when it’s air fried.
- Don’t crowd your air fryer. The chicken breasts must be placed in the air fryer in a single layer to properly cook. So if you make more than 4 breasts you may need to cook them in batches.
- Temp the chicken. To ensure that chicken is fully cooked, use a digital instant-read thermometer to make sure that it has reached an internal temperature of at least 165°F (74°C).Â
Storage
Leftover air fryer pizza stuffed chicken breast will keep in the fridge for up to 4 days. To reheat, just put it in the microwave for about 3 minutes on medium heat or in the oven at 350°F (177°C) for about 10 to 12 minutes. You can also store the leftovers in the freezer for up to 3 months in an airtight container or sealed freezer bag. Yet, you’ll need to let the chicken thaw out overnight in the fridge before reheating.Â
